Ruben oversees Youth In Action, Sanctified Youth, Omega Generation, Refuge and Single Minded ministries. Ruben and his wife, Virginia, have been serving the youth for the past six years. They have five children and three grandchildren.
Ruben was born on September 5, 1962 in the county of San Bernardino, California and is one of four children.
“My brothers and I grew up in Pomona, California after my father, Ruben Senior, and my mother, Virginia, got a divorce. She then married my stepfather, Louie Rodriguez. I went to several different elementary schools, to Fremont Jr. High and then to Gary High School. I dropped out and went to work for the city of Pomona through the C.E.T.A. program until President Reagan cut all that out. I went to work for DeFrank’s Heating and Air Conditioning, where I began my heating and air conditioning career.
After a failed first marriage and several other relationships, I met Virginia. In 1990 my brother and sister in-law began to witness to Virginia, my then live-in girlfriend. She finally gave in to their constant invitations to go to “church” and she soon realized she needed a Savior and accepted Jesus into her heart and was baptized. After several months of inviting me to church I finally broke down and went to Calvary Chapel West Covina with Raul Ries. After the Lord broke through my pride and stubbornness He made me realize that I needed Him and so I repented and asked Jesus into my heart.
A short time later, (a very short time!) we realized we could not continue to live in sin and so we separated. A year later we were married on August 17, 1991 and lived in Duarte. In 1994 the Lord decided to move us, through circumstances, to my mom’s home. It was at this time that we remembered a Calvary Chapel that was next door to a house my brother was renting (soon to be the Youth Activity Center). We came to Calvary Chapel Rialto knowing that we would get solid Bible teaching. I started serving as a helper with the 6th graders and then moved to 4th and 5th graders. From there I started teaching in the Junior High ministry and then the High School ministry and sharing the teaching responsibilities with Brother Richard Ybarra.
At this time the Lord provided a way for us to buy Bob and Nancy Ruiz’s home. On December 4, 2000 I started my own heating and air conditioning business and around March 2001 I was asked to lead Youth In Action. Six months later I was asked to lead Junior High and High School ministries, and I came on staff on a part-time basis. Since then the Lord has allowed us to start Refuge, which is our young adults' ministry. On May 19, 2003 I was ordained. In January 2004 we started the process of laying down the heating and air conditioning business in order to minister to the youth full time. The Lord has been faithful and has allowed us to be a part of the awesome work that He’s doing here at Calvary Chapel Rialto.”
